This article theoretically explores the concept of equivalence as a fundamental category in linguistics. It analyzes various theoretical foundations and approaches to equivalence, including formal, dynamic (functional), semantic, and pragmatic types. The article also thoroughly examines the central role of the concept of verb valency in ensuring intralingual equivalence. Through examples from the Korean language, the study demonstrates the practical application of different types of equivalence and verb valency. Furthermore, it analyzes the relative impossibility of achieving absolute equivalence and emphasizes the importance of the concept of adequacy.
