Plants used in the traditional medicine contain several species of quinazoline alkaloids. In recent years, thiophene analogs of quinazoline alkaloids have been recognized as a promising class of compounds in pharmacology. This review article is devoted to the synthesis and transformation of thiophene analogs of quinazoline alkaloids, including 2-alkyl- and arylthieno[2,3-d]pyrimidinones.
