This article provides a comprehensive analysis of the linguistic and cultural aspects of the phenomenon of onomatopoeia. The author approaches onomatopoeia not merely as a sound-imitating phenomenon but as a bridge between language and culture, reflecting human sensory and perceptual experiences. The text explores the connection of imitative words with national mentality, aesthetic stereotypes, the concept of the conceptosphere, and etiquette. It compares the structure, stylistic, and cultural functions of onomatopoeic units in Uzbek and English. The role of onomatopoeic units in folklore, poetry, and oral tradition is highlighted, showing their contribution to imagery, emotional expression, and cultural coding. The article also addresses the challenges that arise in translation due to the cultural and semiotic characteristics of onomatopoeia. Overall, the study substantiates the cognitive, semantic, and cultural functions of onomatopoeia beyond its phonetic nature and demonstrates its close connection to national mentality and cultural stereotypes, emphasizing its significance for linguistics, lingvoculturology, and translation studies.
