The article examines metaphor within the framework of the cognitive stylistic approach, which connects stylistic features of language with underlying cognitive processes and mental representations. It focuses on how metaphors function in literary texts at the monolingual level and provides a comparative analysis of metaphorical models in English and Russian. The aim is to identify both the cognitive foundations of metaphor and the culturally specific elements that reflect the worldview of native speakers. The results demonstrate that metaphor plays a dual role: it enhances the expressive and imaginative quality of texts while also serving as a central cognitive tool for structuring and interpreting reality. Through comparative analysis, the study highlights universal conceptual patterns shared across languages, as well as culturally grounded differences in metaphorical imagery and semantic domains. Ultimately, metaphor emerges as a multidimensional phenomenon that integrates cognitive, stylistic, cultural, and pragmatic functions. Analyzing metaphor from this perspective deepens our understanding of literary discourse and offers insight into how language reflects human thought and cultural identity.
