This article examines the concept of culture as a complex dynamic system (CDS) within the framework of foreign language learning. Drawing on recent theoretical development in complexity theory, intercultural communication, and applied linguistics, the study explores how cultural competence emerges through non-linear, adaptive interactions between learners and their sociocultural environments. The article argues that traditional static models of culture in language pedagogy are insufficient for preparing learners for authentic intercultural encounters in the globalized world. An integrative approach combining CDS theory, Byram's Intercultural Communicative Competence model, and Kramsch's concept of the 'third place' is proposed as a more adequate framework for modern foreign language education. Pedagogical implications and practical recommendations for language teachers are discussed.
