This study provides a critical comparison between the Grammar-Translation Method (GTM) and Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), examining the shift in pedagogical paradigms from form-focused, rote-learning instruction to meaning-focused, interactional language acquisition. The analysis evaluates the theoretical foundations, classroom implementation, and the role of the learner and instructor in both methodologies. It highlights how GTM prioritizes the mastery of linguistic structures and literary analysis, while CLT emphasizes the development of communicative competence and fluency in authentic contexts.
