This article provides a scientific analysis of methods used in translating onomastic units. The study systematically classifies the main approaches to translating proper names–transcription, transliteration, semantic translation, adaptation, substitution, and descriptive translation – and identifies the conditions for their application. The research findings demonstrate that the translation of proper names requires not only linguistic transfer but also cultural and pragmatic adaptation. The translator’s choice is determined by the function of the name, the context, the target audience, and the degree of cultural distance.
