This article examines the cognitive nature of image, schema, and concept, as well as their interrelation from the perspectives of linguistics and literary studies. The image is considered a fundamental unit of human cognition that reflects reality in a sensory and figurative way, and in artistic texts it functions as an important means of activating the reader’s perception and emotional experience. The study analyzes different types of imagery (visual, auditory, gustatory, tactile, kinesthetic, and organic) based on poetic examples and reveals their functions in poetic discourse. At the same time, the cognitive relationship between image, schema, and concept is substantiated, showing that they constitute successive stages of the human cognition process. As a result, it is concluded that the image should be interpreted not only as an aesthetic device but also as an essential unit that forms cognitive and semantic meaning.
