Annotatsiya

This work is devoted to the analysis of the character of Sultan Selim as depicted in the novel Shah and Sultan by the prominent Turkish writer İskender Pala. Against the backdrop of historical events, the political conflicts between the Ottoman dynasty and the Safavid dynasty of Iran—particularly the rivalry between Yavuz Selim and Shah Ismail—are portrayed in a profound and artistic manner. Through the novel, the author reveals Sultan Selim’s personality, his political leadership abilities, determination, and principles of state governance. This analysis explores not only Sultan Selim’s historical role but also his elevated character traits as an artistic figure. Moreover, the historical context presented in the novel, along with the artistic representation of religious and moral conflicts, constitutes a central focus of the study.
