This article analyzes the life, scientific legacy, and methodology of the 10th-century Arab linguist Ahmad ibn Faris ibn Zakariya (d. 1004). His renowned works, including "Maqayis al-lug'a" (Book on the Roots of Language), "As-saahibiy fi fiqh al-lug'a wa sunan al-Arab fi kalamiha" (On Language Laws and Arabic Speaking Styles), and "Kitab al-Mujmal fi al-Lug'ah" (Comprehensive Compendium on Language), elucidate Arabic lexicology, word roots, semantic changes, and lexicography methodology.
