Annotatsiya

This article explores the distinctive features of psychological analysis in the literary work of Abdulrazak Gurnah. Focusing on his novels Desertion and Gravel Heart, the study examines characters’ inner experiences, identity crises, migration-related struggles, and the influence of the colonial legacy on their psychological conflicts. Methodologically, the study employs psychoanalytic, intertextual, and comparative-historical approaches. The findings reveal that Gurnah’s works synthesize Sufi-inspired spiritual suffering—characteristic of Eastern literary traditions—and the psychological realism of Western traditions. This synthesis enables a deeper understanding of the complex inner worlds of his characters and offers new scholarly perspectives for postcolonial literary theory.
