This article examines the legal nature, historical evolution, sources, and significance of generally recognized principles of international law within the contemporary international legal order. Drawing on major doctrinal approaches, the study analyzes the legal characteristics of these principles, their relationship with jus cogens norms, and their impact on domestic legal systems. Particular attention is devoted to the classification of international law principles according to their sources, scope of application, legal force, and functional role. The article also explores contemporary challenges arising from digital technologies, artificial intelligence, climate change, global health security, and the governance of the common heritage of humankind. Based on these developments, the paper identifies emerging principles that may shape the future evolution of international law in the twenty-first century.
