This article discusses the issue of developing students' communicative competence through the effective use of news texts in English language education. The author focuses on activating students' speech activity and improving oral and written speech skills through texts based on current information in teaching English. The study describes the didactic possibilities of news texts, the criteria for their selection, and the model of their integration into the educational process. The results of experimental work conducted on the basis of this model and their effectiveness are also analyzed.
