One of the most challenging aspects of learning a new language is achieving mastery of verbal skills, which is generally regarded as a particularly difficult process. To speak foreign languages proficiently, it is essential to develop and enhance skills in integration, especially in oral communication. Many linguists and researchers encounter challenges in teaching students to express their concepts and thoughts verbally. Students often need support to convey their ideas clearly and concisely in a non-native language. This article provides a comprehensive analysis of existing research on teaching speaking skills, including its implications, characteristics of verbal interaction, barriers to speaking, and factors that may affect the effectiveness of speaking instruction. The literature review reveals that learners emphasize the need for effective instruction in oral communication skills and require increased focus in this area. The results of this study may offer educators and researchers valuable insights into the speaking difficulties faced by English language learners and the factors that contribute to successful proficiency in this language.
