Since the mid-20th century, archaeology and historiography in Uzbekistan have entered a new stage of development. During this period, archaeological excavations expanded significantly, and new scientific methods were introduced. Scholars increasingly integrated written sources with archaeological evidence. One prominent scholar to emerge in this environment was Yuriy Fyodorovich Buryakov. Buryakov’s academic research is important not only for the archaeology of Uzbekistan but also for studies of statehood and the socio-economic life of ancient and medieval societies. He authored nearly one hundred scientific articles and monographs, many devoted to the history of the Tashkent oasis. His research covered a wide range of topics, including the history of mining and metallurgy in Uzbekistan, the cities of the Great Silk Road and the Timurid period, the history of chess in Uzbekistan, and related subjects. This article highlights selected works by the scholar and his contributions to the field of history.
