The article reveals the main directions of modern politics in the field of media and information in the world through documentary analysis of acts adopted by interstate organizations and national parliaments. Particular attention is paid to the recommendations of European institutions and the UN, as well as the practice of their application in specific states. The author points out general trends: support for so-called “quality media” including public and community media; strengthening the independence of regulatory bodies to which new functions are being transferred; widespread access of citizens to information, as well as reform of legislation on television and radio broadcasting towards technologically neutral regulation of access (distribution) of programs in any environment. The article uses data from an analytical document prepared by the author for the OSCE Center in Ashgabat in 2023.
