우즈베키스탄에는 두 번째 와 봅니다.2019년 2월13일부터 20일까지, 열 명의 동료 교수들과 우즈베키스탄을 방문하여, 한-우즈벡 미디어 컨퍼런스를 갖고, 세계언어대학과 사마르칸트외국어대학 그리고 초대 대통령 기념관 등을 예방했던 적이 있습니다. 벌써 5년 전의 일이네요.이달 중순 윤석열 대통령이 우즈베키스탄을 국빈방문하여 양국간에 ‘특별전략적 동반자관계’를 체결한 바 있듯이, 우즈베키스탄과 한국은 상당히 깊은 인연을 맺고 있습니다.한국에서는 우즈베키스탄하면 “한가인이 밭을 갈고 김태희가 소를 몬다”는 농담이 있을 정도로 아름다운 사람들이 많은 나라로 알고 있지요.그런데 한국어를 모어(母語)로 하는 한국어 화자(話者) 통계를 보면, 한국 약 5,006만 명(2010년 기준), 북한 2,405만 명(2008년 기준)으로 한반도에만 대략 7,411만 명의 인구가 있고, 한반도 이외의 지역에 사는 재외 한국인 인구는 약 700만명을 헤아린다고 합니다.나라별로 보면 중국에 약 248.9만명, 미국에 210.2만명, 일본에 91.3만명, 캐나다에 22.3만명, 러시아에 22.2만명, 우즈베키스탄에 17만 6,000여 명이 살고 있어 우즈베키스탄의 한국어 모어(母語) 화자(話者) 인구는 세계에서 여섯 번째로 많은 것입니다.<그림1> 한국어 화자의 세계적 분포(노마 히데키, 2011)우즈베키스탄의 인구는 3540만명이 넘고 130여 민족으로 구성되어 있다고 합니다. 그러니 우즈베키스탄 인구에서 17만 6,000여 명은 0.5%에 불과한 소수이지만, 우리로서는 우즈베키스탄에 살고있는 한국어 모어화자 즉 고려인 동포 여러분들에게 존경과 함께 애틋한 정을 갖게 되고 그래서 더욱 우즈베키스탄에 친근감을 느끼게 되는 것 같습니다. 제 개인적으로도, 고구려인의 DNA가 있어서인지, 사마르칸트 아프로시압 박물관의 고구려 사신 벽화에 감명을 받아, 몇 년에 한 편 쓸까말까 하는 졸시(拙詩)를 두 편이나 썼던 것으로 기억됩니다.우즈베키스탄 국민도 한국에 대해 상당히 우호적이라 느껴집니다. 제 개인적인 경험도 그렇지만, 우즈베키스탄 대사를 역임한 분이 “민족과 종교는 다르지만 우즈베키스탄 국민은 조상 공경, 전통 존중, 역사적 유산에 대한 자부심 등을 공유하고 있는 한국에 친근감과 애정을 표시하고 있다”(이욱헌, 2015)고 하니, 맞는 것 같습니다.이러한 배경에서, 오늘 우즈베키스탄 저널리즘 매스컴 대학교에서 주최한 <글로벌 시대의 미디어 커뮤니케이션 세미나>에서 발표를 하게 되니 감회가 새롭고 또 영광이라 생각하면서, 학장님을 비롯한 우즈베키스탄 관계자 여러분께 경의와 감사를 표합니다.
