In the context of the modern international system, legal issues increasingly arise about territorial entities not recognized by the international community as states. This article provides a comprehensive analysis of the application of the law of unrecognized states in private international law. The study includes an overview of international and national practice, analysis of the legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and a comparison between normative and factual approaches to legal application. Particular attention is paid to issues of conflict of laws, proving the content of foreign law, recognition of civil status acts, and the legal capacity of legal entities registered in unrecognized jurisdictions. Based on the experience of European countries, common law systems, and CIS states, the author formulates proposals for improving Uzbekistan’s legal framework to ensure legal certainty and the protection of legitimate private interests. The article is especially relevant in the context of growing cross-border ties and global mobility, which require a flexible and pragmatic approach to the law of unrecognized entities.
