The article examines the problem of the correlation between national codifications of private international law and supranational regulations of the European Union. The author analyzes various models of private international law codification in EU member states and identifies contradictions between national sovereignty in the field of conflict-of-laws regulation and European unification processes. Special attention is paid to the experience of Germany and Eastern and Western European countries in adapting national legislation to the requirements of EU Regulations. The conclusion is drawn that a new two-tier model of private international law codification in Europe is emerging, combining national and supranational elements.
