This article analyzes the political and diplomatic relations between the Yettishahar State and the Russian Empire during the 1850s–1880s. The study focuses on the formation of the Yettishar State under the leadership of Yaqubbek and its efforts to establish ties with Russia, with particular attention given to the Kaulbars mission (1872), the diplomatic delegation of Mulla Turob Hoja (1873), and the reconnaissance journey of Kuropatkin (1876). The article explores the fate of these relations within the context of Russia’s cautious foreign policy, its geopolitical rivalry with Great Britain, and the Qing Empire’s military intervention. The analysis draws on the works of Russian, British, and Uzbek historians. Additionally, based on historical sources and scholarly literature related to trade exchanges and diplomatic privileges, the study examines the impact of these interactions on political stability and economic development in the region of Eastern Turkestan.
