The professional competence of a translator in the context of intercultural communication is a crucial factor in ensuring effective communication between representatives of different cultures. A translator must not only master both the source and target languages but also possess deep knowledge of cultural differences, background knowledge, and pragmatic aspects of communication. The article discusses the key components of a translator's professional competence, including linguistic, cultural, and communicative competencies, as well as the ability to act as an intercultural mediator. Special attention is given to the role of background knowledge in translation and its influence on the adequacy of intercultural communication.
