The article focuses on analyzing the place and role of parliament and its members in the context of a modern democratic state. In particular, the role of deputies of the legislative chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the implementation of democratic reforms is considered. The author of the article studies in detail the legal basis of the status of deputies, their participation in the legislative process, as well as their contribution to resolving the most important issues affecting the life of the people and the state. In addition, the article highlights the activities of deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation and presents the opinions of representatives of the international legal sphere on the status and functions of deputies in a democratic society.
