This article examines the legal concept of extremism through a comparative analysis of approaches adopted in Uzbekistan, selected member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), and international legal instruments. The study argues that the legal assessment of extremism should take into account the purpose and methods of the conduct in question, the legally protected interests involved, and its consequences, while maintaining a clear distinction between extremism and terrorism. Based on this comparative analysis, the article proposes a refined legal definition of extremism.
