Annotatsiya

This article comparatively examines neologism formation in agricultural terminology and the processes through which English innovations are borrowed and adapted into Uzbek under the influence of technological change, digitalization, and globalization. The study focuses on productive terms in contemporary agricultural discourse, including digital agriculture, smart farming, precision agriculture, Agriculture 4.0, agricultural drone, digital twin, smart irrigation, and regenerative agriculture. A purposive analytical sample of 60 terminological units attested in sources published or updated between 2019 and 2026 by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and FAO, the International Society of Precision Agriculture, Uzbek agricultural institutions, and academic publications was analyzed. The study distinguishes several mechanisms of neologism formation and adaptation, including calquing, direct borrowing, phonographic adaptation, hybrid formation, preservation of international abbreviations, semantic specialization, and the emergence of competing parallel variants. The findings indicate that English agricultural neologisms are predominantly formed through compounding, attributive combinations, metaphorical extension, and abbreviation, whereas Uzbek actively employs calques and hybrid models that combine international technological elements with native or established Uzbek components. Variants such as precision agriculture – aniq dehqonchilik – presizion dehqonchilik and smart farming – aqlli ferma – aqlli qishloq xo‘jaligi demonstrate that borrowing is not a single act but a multistage process involving competition, adaptation, and eventual normalization. The findings suggest that effective terminology standardization should simultaneously take into account conceptual accuracy, structural compatibility with Uzbek, brevity, international recognizability, and actual professional usage.
