Based on comparative political, institutional, and historical-political analyses, this article examines the impact of the Arab Spring on the transformation of statehood in Libya and Algeria from 2010 to 2026. It explores similar preconditions for mass protests in the two countries, as well as differences in institutional resilience, the organization of the use of force, and the nature of external influences. The study compares the capacity of state institutions to maintain political governability, territorial integrity, and control over key security resources. The findings indicate that, in Libya, the high degree of personalization of power, institutional vulnerability, the escalation of protests into armed conflict, and international military intervention contributed to the fragmentation of state institutions. In Algeria, socioeconomic measures and limited political reforms, combined with the preservation of the institutional core and a unified security apparatus, helped prevent the collapse of statehood. Two models of statehood transformation are identified: a fragmentation model in Libya and an adaptive model in Algeria. The scholarly contribution of the study lies in its comparative explanation of the differences between these models, taking into account institutional stability, the organization of the security apparatus, and the nature of external influence.
