This article examines how conceptual metaphors represent artistic development in Irving Stone’s The Agony and the Ecstasy and Lust for Life. Using a qualitative comparative analysis and Conceptual Metaphor Theory, it compares metaphors of growth, labor, movement, time, vitality, and transformation. The study builds on the author’s previous analysis of Stone’s Michelangelo novel.
