This article presents an analysis of the contemporary composition Music for Oboe and Percussion (2012) by the young Uzbek composer Nurali Erkaev. The focus is on identifying the maqom-based principle of khona-bozguy, which plays a central role in the work’s structural and dramaturgical formation. To date, this piece has not been explored in academic musicological literature. Initially titled Interlude for Oboe and Percussion, the composition was later renamed by the author. The work was written specifically for the contemporary music ensemble “Omnibus” and composed using the author’s original technique — the Method of Collective Resonant Composition (MCRC). The composition is experimental in nature, aiming to synthesize the modal and intonational structures of traditional Uzbek melos with the timbral and technical capabilities of European instruments. The central focus is the interaction between maqom-based principles and contemporary musical language, particularly in modal-intonational, metrorhythmic, and compositional-dramaturgical dimensions.
