The aim of the study was to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of Bispectral Index (BIS) monitoring during the perioperative period in children undergoing surgical correction of congenital heart defects. A prospective, controlled, comparative study was conducted involving 52 pediatric patients aged 6 months to 14 years who underwent elective cardiac surgery. In the main group (n = 32), BIS monitoring was used to assess the depth of anesthesia throughout the perioperative period, while in the control group (n = 20), anesthesia depth was assessed using conventional clinical methods. The findings demonstrated that BIS monitoring provides more accurate maintenance of optimal anesthesia depth, reduces anesthetic requirements, improves hemodynamic stability, and decreases the incidence of perioperative complications. The use of BIS monitoring was associated with shorter durations of mechanical ventilation, intensive care unit stay, and overall hospitalization. The results confirm the high clinical efficacy of BIS monitoring and support its widespread implementation in pediatric cardiac surgery practice.
