During the Samanid rule (9th-10th centuries), the Turks, as in the Abbasid palace in Baghdad, played an important role in the administration of this dynasty from the beginning to the end. During the Samanid period, Turks occupied almost all the main positions in their palace, as well as in other cities and provinces of Khorasan and Transoxiana that were under their control. Defense and law and order were entirely in the hands of the Turks. Many of the Samanid Turkish commanders were major administrative and political figures, many of whom founded their own ruling dynasties and played an important role in the political life of Central Asia. As in the Abbasid palace, many Turkish rulers in the Samanid provinces came to power through military service. However, among them were also many descendants of local pre-Islamic Turkish dynasties. Their ancestors had owned these lands before the Samanids, so they recognized the central government only in name, but in practice were almost independent. When the Samanids were overthrown and power passed into the hands of a new Muslim-Turkic dynasty, the Karakhanids, many of them without hesitation entered the service of the new rulers.
