Annotatsiya

The article discusses the map of Central Asia by the Greek traveler Vasilios Vatatzis, “Charta, in qua cruditis spectanda exhibeteur pas Asiae […] Tabula Maris Caspii et Maris Aral” (“Map of the Caspian Sea and the Aral Sea”), published in London in 1732. The original manuscript copy of this unique bilingual map, which is very rich in inscriptions in Greek and Latin, is stored in the maps collection of The Royal Geographic Society in Great Britain. Vasilios Vatatzis traveled through Central Asia in 1727- 1730 and wrote a travelogue in Greek. In one of the issues of the journal last year, we talked about this travelogue and the information in it. The annotations provided on this map fully confirm the information given in the travelogue and clarify the information in some places. At the same time, the map serves as a separate and independent source
