Since the cement kiln process has various advantages for waste incineration, the waste utilization as alternative fuel has been widely applied in the cement process. For waste utilization in kiln process, it is necessary to operate within the range of not-affecting the clinker quality and the operation stability, and not-causing pollution problems, with ensuring the smooth clinker production. In order to quantitatively analyze the volatiles circulation phenomena during waste utilization as alternative fuel in the kiln process, the simplified volatiles circulation model is derived based on material balances of volatiles, from which the permissible waste utilization % as alternative fuel to maintain the stable operation without any trouble to the kiln process can be calculated. In order to examine the validity of the derived volatiles circulation model, a simulation is performed by applying the data of the kiln process being in stable operation during actual waste utilization as alternative fuel into the kiln inlet. The actual operation data in the kiln process is in good agreement within the calculated value of the permissible waste utilization derived from the suggested volatiles circulation model. Therefore, it can be suggested that the volatiles circulation model simplifying the circulation behavior of volatiles in the kiln process derived in this study is usefully applied to predict the permissible waste utilization % as alternative fuel. In addition, based on the experiences of waste utilization in the cement kiln process, it is added the recommendations for consideration and evaluation on the circulation behavior of volatiles during waste utilization.
