Introduction. The higher education system follows a teacher-centered approach, in which all learning activities are organized and directed by the teacher. This approach may hinder students from adequately developing their learner autonomy. Consequently, students may encounter difficulties in acquiring knowledge independently, applying their knowledge in practice, and managing their own learning process.[1] Therefore, the implementation of learner autonomy in higher education is considered one of the most important factors in improving English language learning effectiveness. Currently, digital technologies and the rapid development of artificial intelligence tools are creating opportunities for autonomous learning outside the classroom, strengthening students' English language skills and helping them monitor their learning progress. Moreover, learner autonomy helps students develop a greater sense of responsibility for their own learning, organizing their learning environment and managing their own learning process. In this process, the teacher’s role shifts from that of a knowledge provider to that of a facilitator who helps students organize their learning and provides support and guidance when needed.[2] Previous studies have focused on learner autonomy and its integration with digital technologies, the Flipped Classroom approach, and AI tools.
