In the presented review modern ideas about sports traumatism as one of the actual directions of sports medicine are systematised. The main mechanisms of traumas occurrence in sportsmen, their epidemiology and clinical features depending on the type of sport and level of physical training are covered. Special attention is paid to the most common injuries of the musculoskeletal system, methods of their diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation. The importance of a comprehensive approach to the prevention of sports injuries is emphasised, including rational planning of the training process, correction of motor stereotypes, use of protective equipment and timely medical care. The review may be useful for sports medicine doctors, orthopaedic traumatologists, coaches and other specialists working in the field ofphysical culture and sport.
