Annotatsiya

This article explores the theoretical and methodological foundations of developing students’ creative thinking skills in English language teaching. It highlights that modern foreign language education is no longer limited to grammar instruction and vocabulary acquisition but increasingly focuses on fostering learners’ independent thinking, problem-solving abilities, and creative participation in communicative activities. The study examines creative thinking from interdisciplinary perspectives, including pedagogy, psychology, and language teaching methodology, with reference to key scholars such as J. Guilford, E. Torrance, and R. Sternberg. It emphasizes essential components of creative thinking, including divergent thinking, originality, flexibility, and elaboration, and explains their relevance to language learning processes. Special attention is given to the relationship between creative thinking and communicative competence, speaking and writing skills, as well as the integration of critical and creative thinking in classroom practice. The article also analyzes modern methodological approaches such as communicative language teaching, task-based learning, and project-based learning as effective tools for developing creativity.
