Annotatsiya

This article examines the theoretical and practical complexities of subtitling within the specialized domain of medical discourse. Drawing on the foundational theories of J. Díaz Cintas and E.D. Malyonova, the study explores the tension between the rigid technical constraints of audiovisual translation and the necessity for high-stakes terminological precision. Furthermore, integrating the perspectives of M. Gotti and F. Salager-Meyer, the author analyzes medical interaction as a nuanced social practice that demands more than literal translation. Through a case study of a popular medical drama, the research categorizes systemic linguistic and technical challenges, such as the strategic use of omission and the preservation of professional register. The article concludes by highlighting the critical need for further academic attention to this under-researched field, as the quality of such translations significantly shapes global audience perception.
