Annotatsiya

This study examines the problem of untranslatability in translation, with a particular focus on cultural and linguistic differences between languages. The research is based on the analysis of examples from the novel O‘tgan kunlar. The main aim of the study is to investigate how untranslatable elements are transferred from the source language into the target language and to identify the strategies used by translators. A qualitative and comparative approach is applied in order to analyze words, expressions, and culturally specific elements that do not have direct equivalents. The study focuses on translation strategies such as calque, borrowing, and compensation, which are used to deal with untranslatability. The findings show that cultural factors play a key role in causing untranslatability and often make direct translation impossible. Calque and borrowing help to preserve the original form and cultural identity, while compensation allows the translator to convey meaning through alternative expressions. However, these strategies do not always fully transfer the original meaning and cultural nuance. In conclusion, the study highlights that translation is not only a linguistic process but also a cultural and interpretative activity. Untranslatability remains a complex issue, and further research is needed to develop more effective translation strategies.
