This article briefly examines the issues of combating the famine and its consequences in Turkestan. In particular, it analyzes the activities of the Samarkand Provincial Commission of the Central Commission for the Elimination of the Consequences of the Famine, established in Turkestan on October 10, 1922. The article also provides a brief overview of the socio-economic situation in the Samarkand Province during 1922–1923 and the efforts undertaken by the Soviet government to mitigate the consequences of the famine.
