This article analyzes the state policy implemented in relation to women during the Soviet period based on sources and analyzes the historiographical issues of this process. The Soviet authorities pursued a policy of encouraging the involvement of women in socio-political, economic and cultural life, in which the involvement of women in education and their participation in social production were identified as priority areas. Soviet policy used decrees and propaganda tools to provide women with equal rights, but a class approach prevailed without taking into account national characteristics. Soviet-era documents, party archives, scientific dissertations and articles published in the media were studied as the main sources, through which the positive and negative aspects of the policy, including restrictions on increasing the activity of local women, were identified, and the influence of communist ideology was comparatively considered. The effectiveness of Soviet policies and their impact in the national context are controversial, and the article provides an objective account of these issues: while the campaign for women's rights promoted equality on the one hand, it also limited social change on the other. The study contributes to addressing current historical issues in the context of Uzbekistan and Central Asia.
