This article analyzes the potential of the prosopographical method in historical research by examining the activities of Russian explorers of the Pamir region in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In contrast to traditional biographical approaches, this study reveals the social and professional aspects of regional development through the creation of a "collective portrait" of expedition leaders, military topographers, and geographers. The research explores the figures of A. Fedchenko, M. Skobelev, B. Grombchevsky, I. Mushketov, and V. Oshanin within the context of the synthesis between scientific inquiry and military duty. Furthermore, prosopographical analysis is used to substantiate the interconnection between scientific cooperation and state interests amidst the geopolitical competition of the "Great Game," as well as the political significance of cartographic achievements. The article is significant for demonstrating the effectiveness of implementing new methodological approaches in historiography.
