This article discusses the nutritional composition, biologically active substances and their beneficial properties of basil (Ocimum basilicum). The essential oils, vitamins, macro- and microelements contained in basil are discussed in terms of their role in strengthening immunity, supporting the nervous system, treating inflammation of the oral cavity, and improving the functioning of the cardiovascular and digestive systems. The article also provides several recommendations on the use of basil in folk medicine for neurosis and stomatitis.
