Troponin determination as a biochemical marker of cardiomyocyte necrosis is currently of great importance in cardiology. The aim of this study was to determine markers of myocardial injury and identify the most significant ones in children with pneumonia. Patients ranged in age from 7 months to 7 years. Troponin I, α-HBDH, and MVCK were measured. Exclusion criteria included congenital heart defects (CHD), cardiac arrhythmias, and genetic abnormalities, as troponin levels are relatively stable in children with chronic heart failure. This is explained by the absence of episodes of acute hypoxia and cardiomyocyte death.
