Despite advancements in medical treatment and prevention methods, acute rheumatic fever (ARF) continues to be a significant concern for pediatricians and otolaryngology specialists. Rheumatic carditis associated with ARF is identified as the leading cause for hospital admissions in cardiology departments for individuals aged 5 to 24 years. According to the World Health Organization, an estimated 500,000 individuals globally are diagnosed with rheumatic fever annually, with around 300,000 progressing to ARF, resulting in cardiac abnormalities. These complications are the leading source of disability. Research indicates that Group A Streptococcus (GAS) is the primary cause of ARF. However, the epidemiological landscape of this infection has changed notably in recent years. According to some scientists, cases of recurrent acute rheumatic fever are relatively rare at present. In people over 20 years of age, active rheumatic processes, including recurrent attacks, are not diagnosed. National programs aimed at preventing acute rheumatic fever and preventing relapses emphasize the importance of both primary and secondary prevention. Today, it is recommended to use programs to control the incidence of acute rheumatic fever. These programs highlight the key principles of primary and secondary prevention of this disease.
