This article examines the broad possibilities of using social media in teaching Russian as a foreign language (RFL). Particular attention is paid to analyzing the pedagogical potential of modern digital platforms, as well as the variety of their applications in educational practice. It is emphasized that social media are becoming not only a means of communication and information exchange, but also a tool that facilitates the active development of linguistic, speech, and communicative competence in foreign students. The article analyzes the pedagogical and linguodidactic aspects of using digital technologies, including the organization of educational interaction, student motivation, and increasing their interest in learning Russian. Social platforms are considered a space for developing intercultural communication skills, developing oral and written language skills, and practicing lexical and grammatical structures in natural communication settings. This article describes in detail the potential of social media for developing students’ communicative competence: creating learning communities, organizing project activities, sharing audio and video materials, and participating in discussions and virtual conferences. It also identifies both the benefits (increased accessibility of learning materials, development of independence, and expanded opportunities for language practice outside the classroom) and the risks of using social media (decreased concentration, distractions, problems with verifying information, and threats to academic integrity).
