This article explores the influence of the English School of Translation Studies on the evolution of translation theory and practice in Uzbekistan, with particular focus on the post-Soviet period. It analyzes how seminal figures such as Peter Newmark, Basil Hatim, and Mona Baker have contributed to shaping the academic landscape of Uzbek translation studies. The article examines the adoption of Newmark’s semantic and communicative translation dichotomy, Hatim and Mason’s discourse-oriented models, and Baker’s corpus-based methodologies in both university curricula and scholarly research. It also investigates how these theoretical frameworks have been adapted to align with the linguistic, cultural, and multilingual realities of Uzbekistan – such as the agglutinative structure of the Uzbek language and the region’s strong oral tradition. While English School theories offer valuable analytical tools, their application has prompted the development of hybrid models tailored to local needs. The article concludes by identifying key challenges and proposing future directions for research and pedagogy in the field.
