This article explores the formation and development of sports societies in Turkestan during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, highlighting their role in the regionʼs social, cultural, and political life. Based on archival documents, periodical press materials, and modern research, the study demonstrates that these organizations functioned not only as centers of physical education but also as catalysts of national awakening and enlightenment movements. The article examines the contribution of sports societies to youth education, the promotion of a healthy lifestyle, womenʼs participation in public life, and the emergence of early civil society institutions. The findings show that the historical experience of Turkestanʼs sports organizations forms the foundation of contemporary sports policy in Uzbekistan and remains a valuable source for developing national traditions in physical education and social modernization.
