In modern linguistics, alongside the traditional field of lexical semantics, new areas such as structural, psycholinguistic, generative, conceptual, and communicative semantics are also developing. While traditional semantics primarily investigates the use of individual words or word combinations and their historical meaning changes, structural semantics (developed by M.M. Pokrovsky, F. de Saussure, L. Hjelmslev, I. Trier, V. Porzig, D. Weisgerber, L. Tesnière, and their disciples) identifies as its main task the study of meanings in the language system, lexical-semantic paradigms, and systematic relationships between various semantic fields. The concept of “shame” that we are investigating is a complex emotional, social, and moral phenomenon of significant importance across various cultures and languages. In Uzbek culture, the concept of “shame” is often closely connected with concepts such as “honor”, or dignity, and “andisha” (consideration), together forming a specific moral-ethical system. This system is based on aspects such as family values, respect for elders, and adherence to societal norms. In English, the concept of "shame" is more associated with individualism-based concepts such as personal values, self-respect, and personal development.
