This article investigates the concept of lexical diffusion as it pertains to semantic fields within the English language. Emphasizing historical and contemporary perspectives, the analysis explores how lexical diffusion contributes to gradual semantic change from Old English through to Modern English. By examining discrete semantic fields - specifically the fields of color, motion, and emotion - this paper illustrates diffusion processes with multiple exemplar cases per field.
