This article examines the theoretical foundations of lexicography, its role and functions inlinguistics. It analyzes the stages of development of explanatory dictionaries of the Uzbek language, theirstructural features, and their role in reflecting lexical changes. Special attention is given to theinterpretation of phytonyms in explanatory dictionaries, including their semantic, stylistic, andterminological characteristics. Based on lexicographic sources, the dynamics of language development andits interaction with other languages are revealed.
