Annotatsiya

This study compares the heroic model in the Old English epic Beowulf and the Uzbek oral epic Alpamysh (Alpomish), two representative works from distinct cultural traditions. While both embody the archetypal hero through exceptional strength, courage, and loyalty, notable differences emerge in the social function, moral framework, and narrative purpose of heroism. The Old English epic emphasizes individualistic valor, fame-seeking, and tragic fatalism within the Germanic warrior code, whereas the Uzbek dastan highlights communal protection, family honor, perseverance in love and justice, and resilience against oppression within a nomadic Turkic context. Through comparative literary analysis, the article demonstrates how cultural milieus shape the heroic ideal and contributes to a deeper understanding of cross-cultural epic traditions
