Annotatsiya

This article presents a psycholinguistic and contrastive analysis of spontaneous speech errors in English and Uzbek based on a purpose-built interview corpus (≈100 minutes per language). Data were sampled from The Graham Norton Show (English) and Darakchi.uz interviews (Uzbek), transcribed and multilayer-annotated in ELAN; Uzbek segments were normalized manually due to ASR limitations. Errors were coded by type (substitution, addition, perseveration), locus (sentence-initial/medial/final), and mapped onto production stages (conceptualization–formulation–articulation) with notes on pauses, repairs, and speech rate. Results show that most errors occur sentence-medially; English data favor addition and substitution under high speech rate, whereas Uzbek shows higher rates of substitution and perseveration. Tip-of-the-tongue events were scarcely observable in video due to compensatory strategies (synonymy, restructuring). Findings refine production-stage diagnostics and suggest pedagogical tasks targeting monitoring, pause control, and repair strategies.
